When I saw a movie with casts lineup of Stars like; Omoni Oboli, Richard Mofe Damijo, Shaffy Bello, Jide Kosoko and many other A-listers, I knew I just had to see it. Was I disappointed? Read on to find out.
‘LOVE IS WAR’, directed by Omoni Oboli and written by Chinaza Onuzo, takes us on a political ride, where a couple runs against each other for Governor of the same state! The movie is an intense-drama about love, ambition, family and following ones dream. It was released on the 27th of September 2019 and is currently showing in all cinemas across the nation.
The movie, starring Omoni Oboli as Mrs Hankuri Philips and Richard Mofe Damijo as Dr Dimeji Philips, portrayed the true definition of Nigerian politics, filled with corruption, greed, selfishness and the longing quest for power.
Now let us get to the juicy details (I promise,I won’t be a spoiler).
I found it hard, suppressing the urge to jump right into my screen and grab all the attires worn by the characters especially the lead actress, Omoni Oboli. She confidently and gracefully slayed each piece, portraying a powerful appearance that at just a glance, you wouldn’t want to mess with her. Thumbs up to the costumier.
The soundtrack! You know that exciting and ready-to-fight-all-bad-guys feeling you get when seeing a marvel movie? exactly! That’s how the movie soundtrack would leave you feeling. Like you can conquer the world, one cool track at a time.
There were a couple of steamy scenes between Omoni and Richard that left me in awe. It was hot and real. I loved every bit of it!
A couple of scenes showed the average Nigerian Alaye(tout) behaviour, it was wise to incoporate those scenes into the movie for a more realistic experience. It truly depicted how these people are being used by politicians to carry out their egotistic desires in their quest for more power.
I was observant enough to notice their use of CGI/Video effect in some particular scenes. It sort of gave me a little joy knowing our industry is delving in that light. However, I think more work and research should be put into producing more quality video effects with that technology.
I love how the movie brings out different emotions from the viewers, from joy to fear to anger and excitement. I must commend the cast; they brought their characters to life beautifully.
So was I disappointed? Certainly not! I would rate the movie a 9.
